My current work continues my search for inspiration in both natural and man-made structures. My compositions are asymmetrical in design and feature recognizable subject matter. I aim to infuse a sense of romance into my work by using vibrant colors to convey the emotional qualities of nature.
Waves on Rocks, Peggy's Cove, Halifax
The inspiration for this painting was the setting sun on the rocks and ways of Peggy’s Cove. This is one of many picturesque coves on the coast of Halifax. I love the texture and color of the rocks and the foaming waves as they crash ashore.

Tocca Falls Lower Stream
Living in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains provides endless scenes of rocks, waterfalls, and mountain streams. The stream below the falls was my inspiration for this painting.

Little Joe in Dry Dock
The South Carolina and North Carolina coasts provide a new environment for me to paint. This painting of coastal shrimp boats is a watercolor painting on canvas.

Pendleton Oil Mill Ruins
While driving through Pendleton, South Carolina, I was struck by the sight of an old oil mill in falling-down ruins. The falling down timbers lent to the abstract design of this painting. This is what I call realistic abstracts. It is creating abstract designs with realistic objects. In the background of the painting is a faint shadow of the part of the old mill that remains standing. A “ghost” of days gone by.

The Coming Storm is pure abstract design. Sometimes I cannot resist a wet piece of paper and a paintbrush loaded with color.

Iris from Mary's Garden
I was struck by the abstract beauty of this Iris, and it lent itself to a full-sheet, wet-into-wet watercolor painting. This technique of application gives the paint a soft-diffused appearance. It allows your watercolors to move or bleed into other areas of paint, creating beautiful effects. It was a challenge, but the result was a stunning painting.

This painting is a study of photo-realism in a simple but beautiful composition.

Barbara's Prayer Plant
This is a classic example of negative painting. Negative painting is the process of creating a shape by painting around the shape. I love the vibrant color and value contrast of this watercolor painting.

Shrimp Boat at Rest
This painting was inspired by a visit to Beaufort, South Carolina. I was pushing the boundaries of painting with complimentary colors.

Partly Cloudy
The Cloud painting begins with painting wet-into-wet and then finishes the painting with wet-into-dry. The effects were quite remarkable.

Peggy's Cove Fishing Shack - Halifax
While touring Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia, Canada I came across this fishermen's shack down by the water, the sunlight flooding through the windows was my inspiration.
